I should really finish my road trip posts.......but time to get fat in Taiwan
04/03/2016 - 04/03/2016
Landed safely in Taipei today. Taiwan is pretty clean compared to dirty old America but not anywhere as clean as Japan. We got in and took the Evergreen bus which was 125NRT (~$4) to our stop for our airbnb. The humidity and heat hit us the second we got off the plane and I am grateful we have A/C. We quickly tucked our stuff in and checked the beds for bedbugs (Thanks, Er.). After shedding some layers from the plane, we headed to Zongshan. Our airbnb is conveniently right above a MRT stop which I hope saves us a lot of time this week. We walked from Zongshan to Ningxia Night Market. We wanted to do something our first night but since we are tired from the flight and it was already 8p by the time we got in, we decided to start with the closest and a smaller one. Night Markets are CROWDED! Where are all these people coming from? Don't they have school and work tomorrow? Shouldn't your children be sleeping?
Anyways, we had one priority: FOOD. So we walked the length of about 3 blocks or so to see what was the most appealing. I have to say I got progressively thirstier with each step in the heat. The first thing I found interesting was the variety of games for prizes at the beginning like a mini carnival.
Then came the carts and carts of food. SO MUCH TO CHOOSE FROM! I'll try them all by the end of the week I estimate.
I decided this steak smelled so good, so how could I not try it? We got rock salt but he ended up putting cumin on it otherwise it would've been even more delicious. Jason, take notes cause that's how you blow torch your food.
Julia really wanted this Pork Sausage on a stick (really you can get any meat on a stick here). So delicious and sweeter than regular sausages (to me, it kind of tasted a little like char siu)
We also each got a drink. Julia got some lemonade and I had this i think limes (but they were tiny limes) with mui. Cold and refreshing. I also wanted to try the fruit here so I got some papaya (sweet too. Mom would be so proud of me.) and this pink fruit that tastes kinda like a bland starfruit (jk google has informed me it is a "wax apple". I'll acquire a picture tomorrow).
Alright, it is time to shower and finally get some real sleep.
Full day ahead tomorrow!
